Workbooks to help you structure information
Info.Design began
teaching classes in information architecture and web writing in 1996 -
distilling the lessons gleaned from years of study and practice in developing
print and CD-ROM based documents.
As we've worked with
students, we've compiled our instructional materials into audience-focused
workbooks. Our challenge has been to craft information in a format that
enables users to articulate and apply the information.
We currently have
two workbooks available for online purchase:
- Writing for
the Web: Structuring Information with the User in Mind
- Information
Architecture for the World Wide Web
Writing
for the Web
You know usability
is important - but what do you DO? This eight module workbook presents
strategies for thinking like the user; gathering, evaluating, chunking,
and organizing content; testing structures; and articulating the value
of effective web structure and writing.
The newest of our
workbooks, Writing for the Web will benefit you by providing both research
citations (that direct you to industry experts) and a systematic, focused,
approach to crafting content with the user in mind. Writing for the Web
includes a comprehensive
index and bibliography. (Available as a viewing only PDF document).

Architecture for the World Wide Web
Our first user-manual
explores definitions for IA and sets a course through a user-focused framework
for constructing a usable architecture for Web sites and Intranet sites.
This book, currently being revised to incorporate more lessons learned,
is available at our discounted rate of $50.00. We anticipate the next
version (Version 3.0) can be purchased in Spring 2002.
