We
know that information architecture
= improved understanding
The most successful people in business understand their
customers. The most successful managers understand the capabilities and
perspectives of their employees. The most effective teachers understand
their students.
The most effective information is..well... understandable.
Understanding is the bridge between data and knowledge; it's the purpose
of information.
Our information age is really an explosion of non-information;
it is an explosion of data. To deal with the increasing onslaught of data,
we must learn how to distinguish between data and information. Information
must lead to understanding.
Responding
to the need for
"understanding businesses"
Our philosophy of understanding is built partially
on the ideas of Richard Saul Wurman, who also coined the term information
architecture. Wurman saw the need for organizations that existed to foster
clarity. We've responded to that challenge.
Working
to improve understanding
As people and as a firm, we look for new ways
to make information accessible and comprehensible. We teach principles
for transforming data into information. We teach people how to think differently
about information and how to see information differently. Many of us aren't
used to seeing structure. But when we do, we can see possibilities in
information. We can help people understand.
That's what an understanding business
is all about. Info.Design takes pride in being an understanding business.
